Dr. Joseph Goodman, DDS, DMD attention to detail and extensive body of work all began at the prestigious University of Aachen, Germany, where he obtained his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree (D.M.D.), and finished his studies and doctoral thesis in Germany with great honors such as “Magna Cum Laude”. This extremely selective dental school is highly regarded in Europe, having produced several of the world’s most recognized innovators in cosmetic dentistry, holistic dentistry, and prosthodontist, commonly known as the dental specialty dealing with full-mouth reconstruction and complex dentistry. In Germany, he participated in the Department of Prosthodontics, which is the specialty of restorative dentistry dealing with complex and difficult combination cases including implants. After working in Switzerland, London and Germany for several years in the department of prosthodontics and reconstructive dentistry, he immigrated to Los Angeles in 1998. Dr. Goodman took the California Dental Board at UCLA and received his second degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with highest grades. Furthermore, Dr. Goodman participated in the “Advanced Education in Prosthodontics” postgraduate program at USC and the “Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at UCLA. Both programs, as well as many postdoctoral courses in cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, give him advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in these great fields of modern dentistry. He has lectured internationally in Paris, Germany and London about cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry.
Dr. Goodman was one of the first cosmetic dentists in Germany to use porcelain veneers starting in the early 1990s. At that time, porcelain veneers were not as commonly used, due to limitation in adhesion and available materials, as it is today. Colleagues at the time dismissed Dr. Goodman’s efforts to achieve dental excellence using porcelain veneers as unrealistic, short-term, and unpredictable. Dental experts just 20 years ago shrugged off the use of porcelain veneers, but they failed to realize the full potential of porcelain veneers. Most of the porcelain veneers designed and cemented by Dr. Goodman 20 years ago are still serving patients well. Some of them have been replaced, of course, but generally only because of changes in shading over time. The new whites today (Shade OM3, Vita Co.) did not exist back then.
